I am now on Wordpress!

The other night, I posted my new Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens. I am so thrilled I finally have this lens! I wanted to buy this since l had my DSLR. After a year or so of saving, I finally have this gem of a lens in my hands!
In my previous post, I shared my short (so far) history with photography. I got my DSLR last year with this kit lens. Despite the bad reviews, I am pretty satisfied with it because of the shooting flexibility it provides.
I could shoot wide angle

and semi close ups. Its zoom capabilities are perfect if you are far away from the subject

I noticed however its limitations. I love taking photos of food and closeups of inanimate objects. My kit lens could not handle being too near its subjects. Pictures come out blurred in some areas.

I did a bit of research and I found out that macro lens is the solution to my problem. I read from forums that using extension tubes and macro filters are more economical but the quality is not the same. Besides, I could also use a macro lens for portrait shots or if I need to take photos that require a bigger aperture.
I read this macro lens is the best but it is beyond my budget. I am not really interested in shooting bugs (yuck) anyways. I also think a 50mm lens is more useful.
I started using my new lens last night and am hooked!! I could finally get the bokeh effect! I could get closer to my subjects without aberrations in my photos. Here are some of the sample photos, unedited:

I can’t wait to take more photos with this new buddy of mine!
I think I’ll still be using my zoom lens more frequently but whenever I will bring my SLR, this macro lens won’t be left behind.
I’m also eying this wide angle lens and trading my current kit lens for this one. I guess I’ll have to wait a few more years before I could get these two. I’ll enjoy this new lens first.
